Check the City's seasonal yard collection first
Oshawa lists yard waste collection every other week, from mid-April to early December. Use the City's address lookup for your collection dates and check its current preparation rules before setting anything out.
Eligible materials include leaves, garden trimmings, weeds and plants. The City specifies paper bags or marked open containers under 20 kg. Branch and brush bundles have separate size limits. Plastic bags are not accepted.
Sort by material before choosing transport
A garden refresh may combine several waste streams. Make a list while planning the job, before the materials become one pile. The City's yard program excludes grass clippings, soil, sod, stones, clay, lumber and tree stumps.
Use this checklist to describe the work. It does not confirm acceptance by Bin and Gone or by a disposal facility.
- Plant cleanup: identify the leaves, trimmings and brush you expect.
- Ground work: record soil, sod, stone and other excavated material separately.
- Structures: list removed edging, fencing, decking or raised-bed material.
- Other outdoor items: record pots, furniture, tools and any equipment.
- Uncertain material: leave it outside the loading plan until its route is confirmed.
Do not assume the regional depot takes yard waste
Durham Region currently states that leaf and yard waste is no longer accepted at its waste management facilities. Check the current facilities page before planning a trip, especially if older advice says to use the regional depot.
If collection does not fit your project, ask a suitable receiving facility about the exact material before arranging transport. Confirm preparation requirements, access and any charges directly. Acceptance of one outdoor material does not establish acceptance of the rest.
Plan around the work and the collection date
For a leaf cleanup, check the next eligible collection date before filling bags. For landscaping, ask the contractor which materials they will take away and what will remain your responsibility. Put those decisions in the work plan.
Keep each confirmed disposal group separate. Mixing plant material with removed fence boards or excavated soil can make the original route unsuitable. Leave enough clear space for the work, household access and any agreed collection point.

Discuss a mixed outdoor project before booking a bin
Bin and Gone's rental service does not establish blanket acceptance for yard waste, soil, sod or landscaping debris. Describe each material and its approximate amount so suitability can be checked before a booking is agreed.
Read what needs material approval, then review bin placement planning if a rental is suitable. Confirm weight terms for dense material and arrange your own loading help. Chemicals, hazardous material and cinder blocks are excluded.
After approval, share the agreed list with everyone working outside. A change from pruning to removing a garden structure is a reason to review the load before adding anything.
Quick answers
Can grass clippings go in Oshawa's yard waste collection?
No. The City lists grass clippings as unacceptable for that program. Check its current lawn guidance for alternatives; do not substitute an unconfirmed bin rental.
Does Bin and Gone offer a bin for every yard cleanup?
No blanket yard-waste service is promised. Explain the material mix first. Any suitable rental, approved contents, loading responsibility and collection arrangements must be agreed separately.
