Look beyond the space where the bin will sit
A driveway can have an open parking space but still be difficult to approach. Snow at the entrance, ice on a slope or vehicles along the access route may change the delivery plan. Describe those conditions when you contact us rather than checking only whether the container's footprint fits.
Use the bin placement guide to note the surface, approach and nearby obstacles. Let us know about shared access or snow-clearing equipment that uses the same area. Agree the placement before delivery, and do not treat a previous summer drop-off as approval for the same position in winter.
Check the same five things before delivery and pickup
Save this checklist for both visits. Conditions can change during the rental, especially after a snowfall or a thaw followed by freezing. Assign one person to check the site and contact us if the agreed approach is no longer available.

Leave room for snow as well as the bin
Think about where the next round of cleared snow will go. A bin placed in the usual snow-storage area can leave you without a practical plan later. Discuss the layout with anyone clearing the property so the delivery route, pedestrian access and collection approach remain usable.
Oshawa's snow-clearing guidance explains that road plows can leave a windrow at the bottom of a driveway. It recommends keeping shoveled snow on your property and describes placing snow to the right of the driveway when facing the street. Recheck the entrance after plowing rather than assuming yesterday's access is unchanged.
The same City guidance explains that severe weather can affect clearing operations. Leave flexibility in your project schedule. Do not add snow or ice to the bin as a way to clear the site; keep the rental for the agreed materials and ask us about any weather-related loading concerns.
Do not use the road as an automatic backup
If private placement is unsuitable, stop and check the alternative before booking. Oshawa requires the appropriate road-occupancy process for work or occupation of City road allowances. The Region of Durham handles its own roads. Roadway, sidewalk or boulevard placement is not something to assume from a rental confirmation.
The City's page includes seasonal restrictions for certain container and project applications. Ask the relevant authority about the exact location, use and dates.
