Who should approve the waste plan before work starts?
Choose one booking contact to keep the material list and speak with Bin and Gone about changes. Each trade should identify what its part of the job will produce, whether its quote includes disposal, and who is doing the carrying. This prevents two people arranging disposal for the same waste, or each assuming the other has handled it.
The renovation rental service provides delivery and collection with customer loading. It does not include demolition, disconnecting fixtures or a loading crew. Record those jobs separately so a bin delivery is not mistaken for a complete removal service.
Which material streams need separate decisions?
Use this matrix as a handoff sheet, not an accepted-material list. Add the actual person's name, confirmed destination and decision date to each relevant row. A material without a confirmed route stays outside the bin; a suspected hazard may need to stay undisturbed until professionally assessed.
| Material group | Decision before loading | Handoff owner |
|---|---|---|
| Fixtures or cabinets for reuse | Confirm the recipient and collection plan; keep them away from disposal items. | Homeowner agrees what stays or leaves. |
| Wood, drywall and flooring | Describe identified materials and request approval for the exact proposed mix. | Trade identifies the load; booking contact confirms the route. |
| Dense tile or masonry | Discuss acceptance and weight restrictions separately. Do not assume spare space permits loading. | Trade reports the amount; booking contact records the decision. |
| Metal and electrical items | Confirm a suitable recycling or disposal route and any preparation requirements. | Named person arranges the separate destination. |
| Paint, chemicals, propane and batteries | Keep out of the rental bin. Check the appropriate hazardous-waste route. | Owner of the material obtains disposal instructions. |
| Unknown finishes or suspected asbestos | Stop disturbing the suspect material and obtain qualified assessment. Never load it. | Homeowner or responsible contractor arranges assessment. |
How do you approve a mixed load without guessing?
Describe the contents together, not as separate phone calls that leave out the final mixture. If household clutter is being added to renovation waste, say so. Review the materials guide and keep a short agreed-load note where the people loading can read it. Cinder blocks are not accepted in this rental offer.
Oshawa's large-item collection program excludes renovation and demolition debris. Do not treat a curbside furniture booking as approval for the offcuts and drywall beside it.
Durham's facility guidance lists separate material categories and charges. Acceptance at a regional facility does not establish acceptance in your rental. The Region also excludes commercial hazardous waste and asbestos. A contractor must confirm an appropriate route rather than assume household drop-off arrangements cover its waste.
What changes when a trade finds unexpected material?
Pause the affected work before the new material joins a mixed pile. Tell the booking contact what was found and where, then resolve identification and acceptance before loading. Do not bury an uncertain layer under material that was already approved, or assume the original quote covers an expanded project.
If asbestos is suspected, do not disturb or load it. Health Canada advises professional testing before renovations because appearance alone is not enough to identify asbestos-containing material. The drywall disposal guide covers questions about uncertain wall assemblies; it is not a substitute for assessment.
Keep paints, chemicals, propane cylinders and batteries outside the rental load even if they appear near the renovation waste. Never drain, mix or conceal them to make the pile look acceptable.
What should happen at each daily handoff?
Before the next trade begins, the outgoing person should identify what was loaded, what remains separate and what still needs a decision. Share the approved-load note with the new arrivals. A different trade using the same container does not create permission to add a different material.
Use the loading guide for the agreed loading plan and the weight-limit guide when dense material is involved. Visible room and a confirmed weight allowance are different checks. Contact Bin and Gone before exceeding either limit or changing the load.
At the final handoff, confirm that separate waste has its own destination, all remaining installation waste is accounted for, and pickup access is clear. Check the rental price and inclusions alongside the agreed dates. If work continues beyond them, discuss revised arrangements instead of assuming an extension.
Quick answers
Can different trades use the same rental bin?
Yes, provided everyone follows the same approved material mix and loading limits. Name one booking contact, and check changes before a new trade adds material.
Does sorting each material mean I need several bins?
Not automatically. Sorting helps identify what can share an approved load and what needs reuse, recycling, specialist handling or another disposal route. Confirm the plan before booking containers.
Does a facility acceptance list apply to my rental?
No. Facility rules and your rental agreement are separate. Bin and Gone must confirm the proposed materials, mixture and limits for the booked bin.
